RICK SHAEFER began his career in New York City as a photographer, creating photo-illustration for magazines, book jackets, album covers, and movie posters. Beginning in the 1990s, he has since devoted himself to painting and drawing. Today, Rick is best known for his intricate, large-scale drawings. Equally influenced by his technical background in photography and his childhood exposure to the work of artists such as Durer, Turner, and Rembrandt, from a distance these drawings present as photorealistic etchings, but upon intimate inspection, reveal themselves as an expressive tangle of calligraphic lines.
